That is the through-line of Hershey in August 2026. The tourist-facing pieces of downtown are quietly being rebuilt for people who live here, and if you have been treating downtown as a place to send out-of-town guests, this is the summer that assumption stops holding.
The corner that used to belong to tourists
For almost twenty years, 27 West Chocolate Avenue meant Houlihan's. The restaurant's last day was December 31, 2025, after 20 years of operation. In its place, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts opened Hershey Social Restaurant + Bar, positioned near the intersection of Cocoa and Chocolate Avenue with interactive darts and trivia alongside chef-crafted entrees and over-the-top desserts. It is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, with daily happy hour specials from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
That happy hour window is the part locals should notice. A late-afternoon downtown price point on the resort side of Chocolate Avenue is genuinely new. The old Houlihan's operated as a hotel-adjacent dining room. This one is being scheduled like a neighborhood bar.
It is also not the only new door on the block. Hershey Inn & Suites, a new select-service hotel, opened in spring 2026 as the first select-service property under The Official Resorts of Hersheypark, joining The Hotel Hershey, Hershey Lodge, and Hersheypark Camping Resort. The practical read for residents: more mid-week visitors staying downtown rather than driving in from Harrisburg, which means the sidewalk economy on Chocolate Avenue now has real Tuesday-through-Thursday demand behind it.
The Fresh Market is the reason to skip Thursday takeout
If you have not been inside the old Hershey Farmers Market building lately, you are working with outdated information about your own town.
Fresh Market at Hershey Towne Square is a 25,000-square-foot indoor marketplace housed in a restored building that has served the Hershey community since 1936. Upstairs is a Food Hall with artisan vendors and chef-driven concepts; downstairs is a Farmers Market of local produce and handcrafted goods. The lower level runs Thursday through Saturday with vendors offering certified organic produce, artisan baked goods, handcrafted soaps, specialty foods, fine art, and one-of-a-kind gifts.
The hours matter more than the vendor mix:
Thursday: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Friday: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Saturday: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Friday until six is the local move. It clears the Saturday tourist volume out of the aisles and puts you in the building at the exact moment the upstairs Food Hall shifts from lunch service to dinner. The Gardens themselves are worth walking through with fresh eyes even without a program. The site covers 23 acres with 11 themed gardens and seasonal displays open daily, and the Milton and Catherine Hershey Conservatory holds a year-round indoor tropical Butterfly Atrium with 600 butterflies, one of only 25 year-round indoor tropical butterfly atriums in the U.S.
What to do with the concert crowds

Even if your household has a season pass and hasn't visited since May, the water park changed.
